FAQ

What’s 演じてみた?

It's like 歌ってみた but voice acting instead of singing.

OK, I'm interested. What should I do to join?

Send me your voice acting sample through this form to join. I will DM you if I think you could be a good fit for the role! I will stop accepting forms as soon as the role is filled.

What sort of criteria are you using to pick the casts?

I'm looking for people who:

  • does not mind not being provided romaji;
  • would like to try working on longer form of voice acting;
  • comfortable in figuring out the characters;

I’m not really looking for “the best voice for a role” or something like that. As long as you fit the above description, you can take any role you want (and it becomes first come first serve).

So you will not provide romaji for the lines in the game?

Yeah, I will not provide any romaji.

What if there are kanji I can't read?

One of my favorite ways to figure out kanji I can't read is to use Google Keep's grab image text feature and copy the kanji to jisho.org. But there are other ways:

  • If you use MacOS, take a screenshot and you can just copy the kanji.
  • Search kanji by radicals in jisho.org.
  • Take a screenshot and ask ChatGPT.
  • Smartphone apps, maybe?

You can also ask me but I think the above methods would be much faster lol (not to mention that I don’t always know the reading, of course)

What do you mean by “longer form of voice acting”, btw?

Imagine something like being cast as one of the characters in a 12 episodes anime series. Assuming each episode is 24 minutes, the whole series would be almost 5 hours in total. It’s not that long here, but we are going to read quite a lot of lines! Since people might only want to voice-act short stuff, I included it in the criteria.

So, how does it work?

Since I believe most novel games would take more than 30 minutes (even when reading in native Japanese speed) to finish, I’m planning to divide it into multiple parts. The parts would be around 10-20 minutes each, and we will work on it sequentially (we finish one part and move to the next).

So for each part, basically it will go like this:

  1. First, I will share a recording of the game to the casts so that they can start recording.
  2. The casts then record their lines and submit it to me.
  3. After all of the recordings are submitted, I compile it into one audio track and mix as needed.
  4. Then I will rerecord the game again to match the lines to the audio track.
  5. Merge the video and the audio, and then I will publish it to my YouTube channel.

Also, I can provide the final video to each cast member just in case they want to clip it and upload it to their channel (uploading the whole video is not allowed though).

Will you direct the voice acting, or are you going to give feedback on the submission, and ask for retakes maybe?

I’m not going to direct the voice acting. You are free to voice-act the characters as you see fit. I trust the people I pick ;)

I also generally won’t provide feedback unless explicitly asked. As for retake, I will only ask for retake if there is major misreading (e.g. reading 顔 as あたま).

If I get a role, am I stuck to the project until the game is finished?

Not at all! I won’t force anyone to stick until the game is finished. Instead, every time a part is finished, I will ask the cast whether they want to continue to the next part or not. If not then I will open the role for someone else.

What if there is a new character appearing in the subsequent part?

I will offer the role to the current casts first. If no one wants to take that role, then I will open the role for someone else in the server.

What about the schedule?

I’m not really good with hard deadlines, but hopefully we can finish each part every two weeks (1 week for recording, 1 week for editing).

Seems like I got the role. What should I do?

You just need to record the lines for your role from the video I shared. However, please note that you don't need to match your timing to the video. You can read your line with the pace you think appropriate for the line. Also, no need to be perfect and don’t forget to have fun ;)

Can I just record while playing the game, instead of the video you recorded?

Of course! Although make sure you pick the same route with the one in the video. And for 8番目のアリス, I would recommend turning off the voice in the setting before playing, since it has voice over already.

You can download the game here. (Just in case, the comments section contains spoilers, btw.)

Can I help with anything else?

Whoa, thank you! Just let me know if you would like to help with something!
